MARCH 11, 2026: CHELSEA, MI: Chelsea State Bank presented the fifth annual Woman of CSB Award to Marelvi van Reesema, for her longstanding commitment to childcare and preschool excellence in Chelsea, which has impacted countless families in her 30+ year career.
“It is my distinct honor to recognize Marelvi as our 2026 Woman of CSB Award Winner,” said Joanne Rau, President and CEO, Chelsea State Bank. “This award was designed to recognize a remarkable female leader within our communities. Marelvi has consistently demonstrated these traits, and instilled the importance of community, leadership, respect, and kindness into three generations of young minds.”
Avila Child Care Center is the longest established preschool and childcare center in Chelsea, MI, and has been trusted by families for over 30 years. Run by Marelvi and her husband, Fred, Avila has been well-known in the Chelsea Community for providing exceptional care, while preparing young minds for kindergarten, and beyond.
“We have employees at the Bank who attended Avila Child Care Center when they were children, as well as parents who entrusted Avila with their children. Avila filled a void for many families in this community and in the surrounding communities for decades. Their family-centric atmosphere supported literacy, arts, free-play, and traditional outdoor playtime. It was recently announced that the family is retiring in May 2026. We wish the van Reesma’s the absolute best in their next chapter.”
In honor of Marelvi receiving the 2026 Woman of CSB Award, Chelsea State Bank will donate $1,000 to Faith In Action, a community funded assistance and resource center in Chelsea and Dexter.
